Turning the Page

And just like that, we have completed the first month of the Rotary year.

What an encouraging start it has been. From meaningful fellowship activities that strengthened our camaraderie to impactful service projects that benefited our communities, the Rotary Club of Makati has begun the year with energy, purpose, and a shared commitment to service. These accomplishments are a testament to the dedication, generosity, and active participation of our members. On behalf of the Club leadership, thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to our mission.

The first pages of our Rotary year are now written, marked by fellowship, service, and a collective desire to create lasting impact. As we turn the page to the next chapter, I look forward to seeing even greater engagement as we continue to strengthen our Club, deepen our friendships, and expand our reach in serving others. With eleven months still ahead, there is much more to write, many more lives to touch, and even more opportunities to make a difference together.

Today, we are honored to welcome Ms. Sharyn Fitzgerald, Economic Counselor of the U.S. Embassy in Manila, who will share insights on the timely topic, “What is the Luzon Economic Corridor and Why are 11 Nations Supporting It?” This promises to be an informative discussion on a development that has significant implications for our country’s economic future. My sincere appreciation goes to our VP/Dir. Philip Soliven, for inviting today’s distinguished speaker and for leading the effort in securing an outstanding lineup of speakers for our upcoming meetings.

AI Academy Cohort 2 Graduation

“Be Brave!” That was my challenge to the 78 learners of our AI Academy during its launch last May 30. Three months later, after witnessing their remarkable growth, I can confidently say they answered that call.

This coming August 8 (Saturday), we will celebrate another milestone as our learners present their capstone projects and graduate from the program. I warmly invite all our members and Anns to join us at the RC Makati Clubhouse and personally witness the impact of this innovative initiative.

The Capstone Pitch begins at 9:00 AM, where our learners will showcase AI-powered solutions developed for our partner organizations, including YMCA, DELCA, led by our very own Mike del Carmen, and the Rotary Club of Makati itself. These presentations are a testament to the transformative power of education, technology, and determination, demonstrating how individuals can turn knowledge into practical solutions that create lasting impact in the communities they serve.

The Graduation Ceremony follows at 4:00 PM, celebrating the successful completion of their 16-week journey.

I encourage you to invite your friends, colleagues, and business associates, especially those looking for talented young individuals who can become future employees. Together, let us celebrate not only their achievements but also the life-changing impact that Rotary continues to create through education, innovation, and opportunity.

Visits to Sister Clubs

One of the greatest privileges of being a Rotarian is experiencing the international fellowship that makes Rotary truly unique. Through our many sister club relationships around the world, we have the opportunity to build lasting friendships, exchange ideas, and experience the warmth and hospitality that transcend borders.

I encourage our members to join our upcoming visits to two of our sister clubs.

The first is the 99th Installation of RC Kuala Lumpur Diraja on August 22 at the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel. A welcome dinner and fellowship, along with a golf outing, are scheduled on August 21.

Our next international fellowship will be the 65th Charter Anniversary of RC Taoyuan on November 5 at the Monarch Plaza Hotel in Taiwan. The celebration will be preceded by a welcome dinner and sightseeing tour on November 4.

These visits are wonderful opportunities to strengthen our international ties, represent RC Makati on the global stage, and create unforgettable memories with fellow Rotarians. I also encourage you to bring your spouse or family members so they, too, can experience the spirit of Rotary fellowship beyond our shores.

Dinner Meeting on August 11

After this week’s luncheon meeting, we look forward to gathering once again on Tuesday, August 11, for our first dinner meeting of the Rotary year at the RC Makati Clubhouse.

Our guest speaker will be Fr. Albert “Paring Bert” Alejo, SJ, who will share his insights on “Leadership and Social Transformation in the Present Philippine Setting.”

I encourage everyone to join us for another evening of fellowship, learning, and meaningful conversations. See you next Tuesday!

The journey is just beginning, and I am excited for all that we will accomplish as One RC Makati. As we begin our second month, let us continue to build on the momentum we have created. Together, let us strengthen our fellowship, expand our service, and inspire more people to join us in living Rotary’s ideal of Service Above Self.
