In the heart of Brgy. Bagong Ilog, Pasig City, young children received more than just a meal, they were given a chance at a healthier future. RC Makati, in collaboration with Kabisig ng Kalahi, marked a significant milestone in its ongoing fight against child malnutrition with the culmination of its Complementary Nutrition Program last February 7, 2025.

Spearheaded by PP Freddie and Jojo Borromeo, dedicated advocates of the Club’s Supplemental and Complementary Feeding Program, the event was graced by Pres. Keith Harrison, PP JunJun Dayrit, and Rotarians Chito Cantada, Ambassador Melvin Castelino, Anton Cabrera, Nikko Dayrit, CB Rivilla, George with Anika Haxton, and Aaron together with Daianne Mempin. Also present were Ms. Vicki Wieneke, President of Kabisig ng Kalahi, and Brgy. Chairman Bing Avis, who expressed gratitude for the positive impact of the program on the local community.

This final phase of the feeding program supported 30 children aged 3 and 4, all identified as undernourished. Their progress was celebrated in a heartfelt graduation ceremony that emphasized the power of collective action. Impressively, 95% of the children enrolled in the program have now reached normal weight levels, highlighting the tangible success of this initiative. During the ceremony, Pres. Keith greeted the children in Tagalog, demonstrating his deep connection to the communities served by the club. He also extended his sincere appreciation to the club’s local partners for their unwavering support in making the program a success. PP Freddie expressed his gratitude to volunteers and partners who embodied Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self.”

This program is part of a broader effort by RC Makati, which has enrolled 400 children in its Complementary Nutrition Program this Rotary Year, with 200 children already graduated. Since its revival in 2004, the initiative has saved over 6,000 children from malnutrition.

A nourishing meal of chicken tinola and a glass of milk was served, strengthening the program’s objective of providing both immediate sustenance and long-term nutritional support. The event also featured a special gift-giving segment under the Last Angel Project, chaired by IPP Bing Matoto. Each child received a cuddly teddy bear for the girls and a soft character pillow for the boys, bringing joy and comfort. Additionally, rotarian Taba Samson donated three dozen pairs of slippers, ensuring the children had proper footwear for their daily activities.

The day concluded with a fellowship lunch at Valle Verde Country Club, hosted by PP Freddie and Jojo Borromeo. It was a time for Rotarians and partners to reflect on the program’s impact and renew their commitment to serving the underprivileged.
