If there is one program the Rotary Club of Makati continues to uphold year after year, it is the mission to provide proper nutrition to children—especially in the most critical early years of life. Beyond our usual complementary feeding programs, RC Makati, in partnership with Kabisig ng Kalahi, has launched the Food Share Program—an initiative that provides food for today, while helping families build a more sustainable source of nourishment for tomorrow. On August 14, this mission came to life in Padre Garcia, Batangas. A delegation led by President Eddie Galvez, Past President Freddie and Ann Jojo Borromeo, Director Michael Hsu, Ambassador Melvin Castelino, Rotarian Jolyon and Ann Menchu Tiglao, Rotarian Makoto and Ann Marilou Numata, and Yaron Hahami, travelled nearly two hours to reach the site. The program opened with a message from President Eddie, reaffirming Rotary’s commitment to fight hunger and support better nutrition. Past President Freddie and Director Michael joined him, offering encouragement to the sixty beneficiary families from Barangays Tamak and San Miguel. A Memorandum of Agreement was then signed, sealing the partnership between Kabisig ng Kalahi, RC Makati, DSWD CALABARZON, and the LGU of Padre Garcia. Through this program, each family will receive sixty kilos of rice, distributed in three tranches. In return, they will take part in community gardening—growing crops that will provide healthy meals for their households in the next 120 days. Families also received bottles of garlic cooking oil, generously donated by Rotarian Glenn Gatuslao. The Food Share Program is more than food assistance. As part of RC Makati’s Nutrition Program, it is a platform for community development—helping families in Padre Garcia move toward a healthier, stronger, and more sustainable future.
