It’s already June—and while most are off on one last summer getaway… For Rotary Club of Makati, we call it our final leg of the service trips before the Rotary year ends on June 30. On June 1, an RC Makati delegation flew to Legazpi, Bicol— Led by President Keith and Rachel Harrison, joined by PE Eddie Galvez, PN Howie Calleja, PND Chris Ferareza, IPP Bing Matoto, incoming Director Paolo Turno, Rtn. Paquito Dizon, and Baby Rotarian Nicky Ramos. Right after landing, the team hit the road to Sorsogon to attend the turnover of the WASH and Brush Area for Sorsogon East Central School. A joint project with Rotary Club of Las Piñas, the ₱240,000 renovation was made possible through the District 3830 Pillar Grant. That evening, a fellowship dinner was hosted by PDG Pepe and Beth Estevez at their farmhouse— Capped with a relaxing night at Oragon Brew House. The next day, June 2, the team headed to Bicol University for the turnover of RC Makati’s fifth Rotary Dorm. During the program, PE Eddie Galvez traced the project’s journey— From its beginnings in Sumilao, Bukidnon, to Negros Oriental, Quezon, Palawan—and now, Bicol. He spoke of the dorms’ role in transforming lives through access to education. President Keith Harrison introduced Rotary’s mission and our focus on education and literacy—one of Rotary’s Seven Areas of Focus. University President Dr. Baby Boy Nebres and Angat Buhay Executive Director Raffy Magno gave messages of support and gratitude. A ribbon-cutting and key handover marked the beginning of a new chapter for the dorm’s future residents. The ₱2.2 million facility includes a fully-equipped kitchen, computer-furnished study area, a 20-bed sleeping room with linens and mosquito nets, and clean shower and comfort rooms. Partners made this project possible—Rotary Club of Naga, GIDCI for bathroom fixtures, and Tahilan Residence & Study Center, which continues to guide dormers in values formation. With over 250 students already served across five dorms, the Rotary Dorm Project continues to change lives. It’s become one of RC Makati’s major initiatives in education and literacy— Empowering young women, building futures, and affirming our lasting commitment to service. After the turnover, the delegation was hosted for lunch by President-Nominee Howie Calleja— Followed by an exciting ATV adventure near the foot of the majestic Mayon Volcano. This is the Rotary Club of Makati. We do service and fellowship all throughout the year.
