The Rotary Club of Makati conducted a community needs assessment in Barangays Laiban and Mamuyao, Tanay, Rizal, as part of the proposed BERDE Program โ€” Building Edible, Resilient, and Dynamic Environments.

Together with representatives from RC Tanay, the Tanay LGU, and NCIP, the team met with members of the communities to better understand their current farming practices, available resources, livelihood needs, and the challenges they face in sustaining agricultural activities.

In Barangay Laiban, the team crossed eight rivers to reach the community, where access to electricity and internet remains limited. Similar conditions were observed in Barangay Mamuyao. Despite these challenges, the communities continue to rely on farming as an important source of livelihood.

The assessment included dialogues with community leaders and residents, farm visits, and discussions on possible livelihood support, such as vegetable farming, ube and citronella production, native pig raising, farming implements, and proposed carabao assistance for shared community use.

The visit is an important step in developing a livelihood program that is responsive to the actual needs, capacities, and priorities of the communities while promoting shared responsibility, sustainability, and long-term food security.

The BERDE Program is being developed as an additional livelihood component of the Rotary Club of Makatiโ€™s Food Share Program in Tanay, Rizal. #RCMakatiย #BERDEProgramย #HOPEMOBILEย #RotaryClubofMakatiย #createlasingimpactย #PeopleOfAction
